Hi Jean!
We’ve been able to get out on Trillium with more frequency now that I’m out of school. Classic Lake Erie winds are either blowing 20+ knts or dead calm. The trick is to get out when the tops of the trees just start wiggling – we’ve had some great sails!
I never get tired of hearing the hails of, “Pretty boat! What is she?” I find it remarkable that she can be so rock steady in heavier winds and yet is always mannerly. She feels and sails like a bigger, heavier boat and yet her helm is light as a feather. In light winds when other boats may be listlessly flapping their sails and not making any forward progress, Trillium still ghosts along and I’ve seen other skippers head for her wake just to see if we’ve found a zephyr or a magic puff. And having an electric motor has proven to be a wonderful propulsion system; you just silently glide along and plug it into shore power when you return to the slip.
And I find that I can’t just walk away from her after I’ve buttoned her up after a sail…I have to turn around and stand there for a few minutes, just admiring her lines. She is the perfect boat…everything we wanted and more. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate her beauty, her classic looks, her sailing qualities and the quality of her build.
We hope to have a good picture of her out sailing soon!
