Social Responsibility

Roses at SeawallRESPONSIBLE OPERATIONS

In every product and decision we make, Classic Boat Shop recognizes an opportunity and responsibility to improve the sustainability of our company, our community, and the world we share.

KEEP IT MOVING

In our facility we recycle as much of our waste as possible including packaging and cardboard waste, plastics, shrinkwrap, batteries and computer equipment, magazines and paper.

FIT FACILITIES

We’re always on the lookout for ways to reduce our impact on the environment through products we use. We use environmentally friendly bio-degradable soap  for all exterior washing of topsides and decks. We are installing electric drive inboards on our Pisces and working with our paint suppliers to find bottom paints that are most eco friendly while providing you with the performance you expect.

Cairn at Otter CliffOil and hazardous waste products awaiting removal/disposal are kept inside locked ENPAC containers with interior secondary containment .  Seasonal boat bottom washing takes place over a designated impervious pad and all waste water generated is collected, filtered and reused in a closed loop system.  We have voluntarily enrolled in  the Maine Clean Boatyards and Marina program  and have implemented a Storm water Pollution Prevention Plan under the guidance of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection

We’re also on a campaign to conserve energy in our buildings.   Through the Efficiency Maine Program we  recently replaced our older florescent lighting with  newer more efficient  fixtures. We recently installed a clean propane radiant furnace to provide a healthier work environment for our employees

FIT FAMILY

We  care about our employees and their family’s health by providing health insurance and encouraging our employees to lead a healthy lifestyle.  We have implemented a ‘Non Smoking’ workplace policy where smoking is not allowed on the grounds or in any company vehicle.   We are working with OSHA  and  the Safety Works of Maine program to help improve our facilities as a safe and healthy work place. We also strive to reduce the stress of the seasonal nature of our business by having adequate work space to maintain a steady flow of work throughout the winter months. Thus avoiding longer hours and weekend work during the spring and summer months.

LOCAL LOVE

Waves at SeawallWe care about  our neighbors and the local communities we live and work in. We show it, in one way, by donating to local programs such as, the MDI Community Sailing Center,   The Harbor House,   The American Red Cross, Friends of Acadia , Friends of Blue Hill Bay, Maine Island Trail Association and our local schools and libraries.  We also  make every effort to keep noise and light pollution to a minimum and reasonable hours  in consideration of our neighbors. We always hire or buy locally first before seeking alternative sources.

HONOR YOUR PARTNER

We believe that all of our employees should be treated with dignity and respect and provided a healthy environment when they come to work. We also seek to partner with vendors who share our commitment to these values.
